Holy Communion

A graveyard at sunset
The Holy Communion or Eucharist is an offering of prayer and praise, in which the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are recalled through the teaching of the word and the celebration of the sacrament.

In this service, bread and wine are blessed by a priest. The priest uses words that recall Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples, during which he shared bread and wine with them and said, “This is my body” and “This is my blood of the New Covenant”.

Jesus commanded the disciples to continue to share this meal with each other in memory of him. The Holy Communion or Eucharist is daily bread, food for life’s journey.
