The Team

The
Worcester South East Team presently comprises three distinct
parishes, and four churches; we are beginning to consider moving
towards a single parish benefice. The total population of the
Team area is about 25000, with St Mark’s parish having around
7500. The housing is mixed throughout the Team, ranging from
urban terraced housing to modern detached suburban estates, with
a significant number of former council housing (mainly in St
Matthew’s parish, Ronkswood). Whittington is a small village on
the outskirts of the city and tends to gather its congregation
from afar. There is a significant Muslim (Pakistani)
population, established thirty years ago, especially in St
Martin’s. A smaller Italian community also lives in the parish.
The congregation of most churches live in their respective
parishes.
Occupations vary, with some
light industry, including Metal Box, and the Worcestershire
Sauce factory. Within the team there are:
-
five homes for elderly
residents,
-
the main Worcester
hospital,
-
two hospices (for adults
and children),
-
a sixth form college,
-
the college for blind
students,
-
two Church of England
Primary schools,
-
four other Primary schools,
-
a school for special needs
children,
-
two High Schools (one
Catholic),
-
and the Convent independent
school.
-
There are strong links with
most of the schools.
